Centenary was the first church built in
Winchester, about 1749, and served by Missionary
Ministers. In 1842 the German Reformed Church was
built in the present location, the corner of Cameron and
Cork Streets, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the
Reformed Church in the Shenandoah Valley. This church was so
badly burned from use by union soldiers that it was
necessary to rebuild. The present structure was dedicated
August 4, 1906 and continues with celebration, praise and
worship to the present. The Evangelical and Reformed Church was
formed in 1934. In 1957 the Congregational Christian Church
merged with the Evangelical and Reformed Church to become
the United Church of Christ. Today, Centenary has dedicated and
committed members who love God and the Church. Centenary is
proud of their heritage and work to preserve it. The church
does many missions. Centenary has a Day Care and twice a
month Friday Luncheon Program for the homeless and those in
need. Centenary sponsors a food bank twice monthly also.
Centenary gives support to other UCC Funds and local
programs such as the Free Clinic.
